4 Monitor Myths Busted!

When buying a monitor, you’re purchasing both a window to the world and into your computer. So today we invite you to take a look at some of the most common computer monitor myths so you can make a better-educated decision guaranteeing you have the best view possible.

Bigger the Better - Screen Size

The size of a monitor is said to be the most important feature. However, this is only partially true; a monitor’s size is only relevant if it matches a particular resolution. Ultra-wide screens are good for gaming, graphic designing, and watching videos. In some cases, if you already possess a smaller screen (say 24” or 27”) with a good resolution, it might be worth pairing it up with another similar-sized screen to create a dual monitor setup rather than investing in a larger screen. To put it simply, purchasing a large display with a poor resolution will be a huge error. Having a resolution proportional to the size of your screen will give you ample viewing possibilities and a beautiful, crisp image.

  • More the merrier - Resolution

Resolution is one of the first things people consider while buying a screen. And while a higher resolution gives you in general a higher-quality and crisper image, the final effect depends also on the resolution the content you are viewing is recorded in. Furthermore, when choosing a monitor for gaming, you must think about what your graphics card is capable of. There is no point in getting a 4K monitor if your graphics card can only handle the lower resolution of 1080p. We suggest always keeping your hardware limitations in mind when making the final decision. The best screens (4K/ultra-widescreen) need the best graphics cards to reach their full potential.

  • Monitors can impair your eyesight

Although medical experts agree that spending too much time in front of a monitor isn’t healthy in general, the definition of too much and the actual effect it has on your sight varies a lot! There is actually no convincing evidence that long-term visual impairment may be caused by monitor use alone. This of course, also highly depends on ergonomics and how much distance you keep between yourself and the screen when working or gaming. To overcome these issues, all iiyama screens feature Blue Light Reducer and Flicker Free Technology reducing the strain on your eyes when working long hours. If you further choose a screen a with height adjustable stand with tilt and swivel options, your work ergonomics and general comfort will improve a lot.

  • Faster and more furious – Response Time

When it comes to response times, the fastest may not always be the absolute must for you. Just like you wouldn't need a Ferrari to run everyday errands, unless you are into competitive gaming you don’t need a monitor boasting a 0.4ms response time. For instance, if you need a desktop for everyday office tasks or having team meetings, the response time below 10 ms is perfectly good enough. To sum it up, the response time you choose, like most of the other specs also depends highly on your usage and so there is no right answer or one size fits all when it comes to monitors.

Our advice would be to evaluate your needs and budget carefully. This will prevent you from overpaying for a monitor that doesn't suit the type of activity you want to use it for.
